Student Case Study

More Than a Score

A First Responder's Long Road In

Nathan came to Premed Catalyst as a non-traditional, first-generation applicant with years of frontline experience — a 911 EMT and emergency dispatcher, a volunteer EMS training coordinator, and co-founder of an advocacy nonprofit and political action committee for EMS workers. He had the clinical hours, the research, and the heart for medicine. What he didn't have yet was a way to pull four MCAT attempts and a sprawling set of experiences into one clear, authentic story.

Premed Catalyst helped my application find a clear, authentic voice.

Through candid feedback and structured guidance, his advisors helped turn a set of seemingly competing experiences into a cohesive narrative about why he was pursuing medicine. They set realistic timelines, iterated on drafts with purpose, and focused every line on what he uniquely brought to a medical career. He pointed to the 1:1 editing, and advisors who adapted to his situation rather than running him through a template, as what made the difference.

In Nathan's Words

On finding his voice, the process, and the results.

What did Premed Catalyst help you with most?

They helped my application find a clear, authentic voice. Through candid feedback and thoughtful guidance, my advisors helped me turn a set of seemingly competing experiences into a cohesive narrative about why I'm pursuing medicine.

What was the process like?

Structured and empowering. We set realistic timelines, iterated on drafts with purpose, and focused every line on what I uniquely bring to a medical career. I especially valued the 1:1 editing and advisors who adapted to my situation.

You had four MCAT attempts on your record. How did the cycle go?

The results speak for themselves. Despite four MCAT attempts, I earned multiple MD interview invitations and acceptances. I'm confident that traction came from how Premed Catalyst helped me frame my journey and communicate it effectively.

Would you recommend Premed Catalyst?

Without reservation. Cost is the only thing that gives anyone pause, but you can't argue with the results. I wouldn't have these opportunities without their support.
