Med school isn’t just a dream. It’s a numbers game. And nothing haunts premeds quite like the GPA. If you’ve found yourself deep in Reddit rabbit holes, second-guessing your science GPA, or asking if that one C+ will destroy your future, you're not alone.

We’ve built a Med School GPA Calculator that gives you clarity, not confusion. You can input your course, credits, and grade and instantly see how your GPA stacks up, both overall and by science categories. You’re in control of the data, and with built-in tools to run “what if” scenarios, you’ll know exactly where you stand and what it’ll take to improve. All for free. No pay walls or email inputs.

And if you’re serious about keeping that GPA competitive from year one to graduation, you need more than just a calculator. You need a map. Our free 2-hour workshop walks you through how to strategically plan your premed years. That way, you do more than just hit the numbers. You stand out to AdComs.

How Our GPA Calculator Works

You’ll start by manually entering each course you’ve taken:

  • Name
  • Number of credits
  • Grade
  • Whether it was a science course or not
  • The year you took it
  • What your status was (freshman, sophomore, etc.).

As you type, the calculator updates everything live. No need to hit submit, no “calculate” button. It works with you.

Behind the scenes, it uses the official AMCAS 4.0 grade scale. That means:

  • A+/A = 4.0

  • A− = 3.7

  • B+ = 3.3 ...

  • D− = 0.7

  • F = 0.0

It then totals up your grade points and credit hours to calculate:

  • Overall GPA – all graded classes, regardless of subject

  • Science GPA (BCPM) – only courses marked as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Math

Everything else, like Pass/Fail courses, Withdrawals, and Incompletes, gets excluded from the math automatically (just like AMCAS does).

AMCAS GPA Calculator (Overall + BCPM)

Calculate your verified Overall GPA and BCPM (science) GPA. Results are displayed by year/status, with BCPM, AO, and Total GPAs just like the AMCAS report.

Notes: AMCAS counts all course attempts, even repeats. AMCAS scale: A+/A=4.0, A−=3.7, B+=3.3, B=3.0, …, D−=0.7, F=0.0. P/NP/S/U/W/I/AU are excluded from GPA.

You’re in Control of the Data

Nothing you type goes anywhere. Every course, every grade, every edit you make. It's all stored safely in your browser’s local storage. That means:

  • You can refresh the page, and your data stays put.
  • You can close your laptop and come back next week. Everything will still be there.
  • You don’t need an account, login, or cloud backup.

If you want to move your data around, you’ve got options. Export it as a CSV, import it back later, or create a shareable link that embeds your entire course list right into the URL. It’s perfect for working with an advisor or just backing things up.

And once the calculator loads, it works 100% offline. So whether you're on a train, in a coffee shop, or stealing Wi-Fi from the apartment next door, your GPA calculations are safe and ready to go.

What AdComs Really Care About

Here’s the truth: most med schools don’t care nearly as much about your overall GPA as you think they do.

What really moves the needle is your BCPM GPA. That’s your Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Math courses. Your science GPA. Why? Because that’s the part that proves you can handle med school-level science. It’s the most predictive piece of your academic profile.

You could have a 3.8 overall, but if your science GPA is a 3.3, that’s a red flag. On the flip side, we’ve seen students with a 3.4 overall and a 3.8 BCPM get into top programs. It’s that important.

That’s why this calculator breaks it out for you. Every time you enter a class, you tag it as BCPM or non-science. The BCPM GPA updates live, and that’s the number you want to focus on. It’s the one most AdComs are looking at when they ask, “Can this student survive our curriculum?”

Don’t Waste a Single Semester. Get Expert Support.

If your GPA isn’t where you want it to be, whether you’re trying to finish strong or build it back up from a rough start, you need to be strategic. You need the right classes, the right timing, and the right extracurriculars that show you’re more than just a number.

That’s why, at Premed Catalyst, we offer mentorship that includes a mapped-out plan for every semester so you can build a strong GPA.

You’ll get:
