Prompt 1: Additional Areas of Interest (1000 characters)
You're asked to pick up to two areas like healthcare disparities, academic medicine, telehealth, or clinical research, and explain how you’ve prepared for them.
Choose areas that actually reflect your lived experiences. Don’t pick what sounds impressive. Pick what’s real. Then, use tight, specific stories to show how those interests developed and how they’ll grow at Baylor.
Prompt 2: Gap Year (if applicable)
If you didn’t go straight from undergrad to med school, explain what you’ve been doing and why it matters.
Be honest, but intentional. Whether it was work, research, caregiving, or travel, connect it to your growth and readiness for med school. Don’t just list what you did. Tell them how these activities changed you.
Prompt 3: Special Experiences (2000 characters)
This is the catch-all. Anything unusual, tough, or meaningful that shaped you goes here. Think adversity, unique life paths, or things that didn’t fit into your primary app.
Go deeper, not broader. Choose one or two experiences and reflect on how they shaped your character, perspective, or purpose in medicine. This is a space to show resilience, grit, and depth.
Your letters of recommendation should echo the story you’re telling across the rest of your application. That means choosing people who’ve seen you in action, ideally across different settings.
Professors can speak to your academic rigor. Doctors or clinical mentors can vouch for your bedside presence. Volunteer coordinators or researchers can confirm your leadership, service, or grit.
Baylor requires three to four letters of recommendation, with at least two from science faculty. They accept either individual letters or a committee letter (if your school offers one). TMDSAS handles the collection and delivery of all letters.
Baylor College of Medicine conducts two 25–30 minute virtual interviews, each with a member of the Admissions Interviewing Subcommittee. These interviewers may be faculty, current students, residents, or fellows.
